Building in Saudi Arabia isn’t just what we do — it’s woven deep into our DNA.
Situated to the southwest of the city of Madinah, Wadi al-’Aqiq is a valley that has a seasonal river flowing through it. A fertile land, it is also a blessed one as per the narration from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Surrounded by trees and remnants of palaces, it is filled with history, and forms one of the key thoroughfares to the city of Madinah itself.
The future of Wadi al-’Aqiq
The wadi is subject to an expansive development project that will look to capitalise on its lush nature and connection to water. A new grand park is being developed along the entirety of the wadi, as well as new public spaces to create a gathering area for people in this blessed valley. With the projects to bring people to the wadi in motion, the opportunity is there to provide assets to house and attend to visitors looking to take in the beauty and bounty of al-’Aqiq
The style encourages a development that thoughtfully integrates traditional Madani architectural elements while utilising modern materials.
The Saudi Government has explicitly directed as part of Vision 2030 that all regions must have their own distinct aesthetic, reflecting the cultural development unique to each region. The site for this proposal is situated in the Inner Madinah region, just outside the 2nd tier area. This therefore categorises it as a 3rd tier development, which is classed as “Contemporary”.
In keeping with Wadi al-’Aqiq’s development as a gathering space for people, the proposal will look to further emphasis this aspect by providing amentities to guests and visitors alike surrounded by lush landscaping.
